Personal Statement
I am always told that sports are a privilege. You are a student-athlete, student comes first.
I have had many great role models in my life. My baseball coach/trainer, teachers, family and friends. They have all pushed me to be responsible and participate in my life.
I play baseball for my high school and on a travel team called CIBA. I also like to play basketball in my free time, my junior year I decided not to play high school basketball so I could focus more on school and work. One time one of my coaches told me that you can only love one sport, but I love both of the sports. Although I want to go farther in baseball in my life, I will always work at basketball and baseball in my life. My philosophy is that you can take certain skills from different sports and implement them into each other.
Not a moment goes by when baseball isn’t on my mind. Since before I can remember, I have loved baseball. It was at that moment that I have told myself and everyone who asked, I will get to the big leagues. I've been told my whole life that it's not possible for me to make my dream a reality. People have tried to put me down, tried to make me think that I can't, but what they don't know is that it keeps me going. It fuels me, it makes me want to work harder and harder. Classmates, teachers, friends, and coaches have all told me that I can’t. I want to prove them all wrong.
There will be hard times, but it is how you react to these times that shape you. In these times there are two roads you can choose to go, Failure and Success. I will always choose Success, because if I don’t then I will not prove those people wrong, I would let them win. I will not let that type of failure in my life, I won’t let anybody tell me what I can and cannot do with my life.
I try to make my teammates and myself better every game and every practice. I have been on teams where teammates would do the exact opposite. I changed that situation, so it wouldn’t effect and become me. In my sports I want and demand better out of all of my teammates, because if we don’t some other team will.
Because of all this I have become the person I am and will be. I will always push to work hard every day. I will never stop climbing, there will be no end for me. If I fail, I will turn it into success.
