My name is Kimo Ferreira, a junior at Assumption High School where I play center field. I am currently 5-11 and weigh 150 lbs.
I grew up playing the game of Cricket on the island of Dominica from the tender of age 3. A few traits I had that eventually transferred to baseball was the fact that I had really good hand-eye coordination and a fascination for hitting. I enjoyed hitting cricket balls as far as the naked eye could see, and spent numerous hours a day doing just that. When I moved to the U.S at the age of 7; I instantly fell in love with the game of baseball and transferred all my enthusiasm into learning everything about it.
I played baseball for 4 years straight, then decided to have an open mind by playing soccer, basketball, and even Tae kwon do. However, it was quite evident that my love for baseball, could not be matched to that of other sports. During that time I improved significantly, at playing in the out field due to my speed and catching ability. In that time period, I continued to practice my baseball fielding fundamentals because it really gave me an inner joy, that could not be explained. In my Freshman year, I was inspired by a commercial by Dee Gordon, who after a few years off, resumed playing baseball in his Sophomore year and still successfully made it to the pros. I told myself If he could do it, then so can I!
In the summer of 2015, I tried out for the SWC Cardinals and I made it. Over that time period, I was fortunate enough to have a coach that noticed my talent, and love for the game; and he helped me to harness my enthusiasm for baseball. That summer I made immense strides in my overall game, which was quite evident; especially in my fielding. For example, I finally mastered the ability to catch balls that were way out of my reach and threw opponents out from the deep parts of Center Field. My batting also improved as I was able to hit a one-hop 350-foot line drive with relative ease.
In my junior year, I finished the season with .311 batting average and a drive to play more baseball. I tried out for the Post 9 American legion team where I got the opportunity to play alongside the best players from all over my state. I finished my legion season with a .576 batting average and a lot of confidence in the field. I then tried out for the Velocity Nighthawks competitive 18u team and made it as well. While training at Velocity, I was able to get my exit velocity up to 84 mph. With my fierce determination to gain even more exit velocity, I currently train every day by lifting weights, using the batting cage and continuously looking at videos of professional players.
I am aware that I do not have a long history of plays to present to you but I do have a deep-rooted love for baseball and I am always looking for ways to improve. I am also disciplined, hard-working, self-motivated, a great team player and always open to learning new things. With that being said, I will give my heart and soul to contribute to the overall success of your team.
