Reid Fragel a recruit from Michigan criticized UM for being “disrespectful” to in-state prospects by focusing almost exclusively on out-of state players. While he may not like the emphasis, it is not going away any time soon.
College Coaches have been gradually recruiting further and further out of their traditional territories for the last decade. At NCSA we urge the student athletes we work with to strongly consider a wide range of geographic options in order to capitalize on the explosion of opportunities available nationally.
When recruiting regionally coaches used to search to fill their rosters with the best players available and mold them to the system the school was running or make slight changes to accommodate special players. Now they are able to search nationally to find the exact player that fits the mold for their system.
Conversely this also creates more opportunities for student athletes to find the right fit by considering more schools. Why try to fit a square peg in a round hole? Why settle for a school that doesn’t have the major you want? Take a look nationally, you never know what you might find!
