April College Recruiting Education

April Education

For college-bound student-athletes entering a DI college or university on or after August 1, 2016, they will have to meet new academic requirements in order to receive scholarships, practice or compete during their first year. Depending on their courses, GPA and test scores, they will be classified in three ways:

–          Qualifier: may receive scholarship, practice and compete in the first year of enrollment

–          Academic Redshirt: may receive scholarship in the first year and may practice in the first regular academic term, but may not compete in the first year of enrollment

  • The athlete must complete 9 semester hours (8 quarter hours) in the initial term to continue to practice in the next term

–          Nonqualifier: can’t receive scholarship, practice or compete in the first year of enrollment
