What To Do If You’ve Had No Contact From College Coaches

No Contact From College Coaches? Time To Activate & Recalibrate!

Except for the select few, another football season is winding down across the country for most high school football athletes. At this time of year, kids are left wondering what to do with their future, and how to standout in the highly competitive recruiting process.

For seniors who have had no contact with college coaches, it’s time to reach out and connect with as many schools as possible. There are several tactics NCSA Athletic Recruiting has honed over the years to help student-athletes in just your position. It’s not too late, and we can help, but there is no time to waste and only a small window left to receive a scholarship.

As for athletes who still have time left in high school, my main advice is to activate and recalibrate.

Activate your college recruiting process

I don’t want to be confusing about the way I’m using “activate” here.

To activate means that in today’s recruiting process it’s imperative to have an online presence.

Having a one stop shop for college coaches allows them to evaluate athletes where all their information from grades, test sores, stats and video is hosted in one place. Hosting your video on Youtube or Hudl is simply not enough in the ever competitive pursuit of an athletic scholarship.

Now that your season is over, this is the best time to gather your game film and put together your highlight video showcasing your best plays from the year. (Our team can help!)

Recalibrate your expectations about college recruiting

What does it mean to recalibrate? Recalibrating is all about goal setting.

You’ve finished your season. You’ve watched your last game film with the team. Your coach has graded your performance. You now know what you need to work on. It is time to recalibrate and to set your goals.

Goal setting doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here’s what I do:

  1. Ask yourself what your three top strengths, and your three top weaknesses are. Write these down.
  2. For each, set some achievable goals for yourself – both athletic and academic.
  3. Of those 12-18 goals, what are the easiest to handle? What would be most challenging? How can you get closer to them?

You might not make all of your goals. You might only highlight one or two of your strengths.

But achieving as much as you can will put you in the most recruitable position for your personal recruiting journey. You might not get into Division 1, but remember: there are 876 colleges that offer academic and athletic scholarships!

It can’t just be about your sport.

Athletically, consider setting goals in the weight room, and improve your forty yard dash time to keep you on the right path. But remember that your academics should always be at the top of your priority list.

If your grades aren’t where they should be, it’s time to focus on increasing your test scores and prepping for your upcoming ACT/SAT tests. Student athletes with good grades have more opportunities to play sports at the next level.
