Personal Statement
Being born in South Africa and moving to the United States at the age of four has given me the tenacity and adaptable to achieve any goal I set my mind on. My love for the game sparked when my freshman Biology teacher invited his class to try out for field hockey, I initially started as forward, but switched to goalkeeper when the position became available and our team needed someone to step up. I absolutely fell in love with the position and it has been my passion ever since.
It is important to me to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA in high school, and go to a college where I can pursue a Biology major with an end goal of veterinarian or psychology studies while playing competitive hockey.
When we first moved to the United States I could only speak Afrikaans but had to start kindergarten within six months. It was definitely a challenge to learn a new language and adapt to a different country at such a young age, but it has taught me to have empathy for younger children in challenging situations. Throughout my school years, I have been selected on numerous occasions to be a leader or mentor for younger students whether it be incoming freshman or children with disabilities or social struggles.
