Personal Statement
My deep love for field hockey took a while to develop. I was a double sport athlete for a long time. Playing soccer, and field hockey on the side, from the age of ten. Once I turned thirteen, I found my strong passion for the sport, and started playing with a local club full time. I played through middle school, and then I moved across to the country, from east coast to west coast, due to my father's military job. I had to leave the place I lived for ten years, and relocate, very far away. I had to learn to meet people again. One of the difficult things about moving to California was learning to adapt. I was going into a high school with no field hockey team, and no friends. The move did change my life. I joined a club based out of a place 45 minutes where I live. Through playing field hockey, especially through Rush, and traveling with my team to the east coast, I've learned I am extremely independent. I would go on these team trips with none of my family, and since I'm still relatively new to the team, no true friends. I also learned that discipline is a necessity. I play for a club with a very high standard, and if I don't keep myself in line, and play for the team at that standard, I won't play. This has also helped increase my mental toughness. I've learned how to take criticism well, and put my heart and soul into everything. Every time I pick a stick, my devotion for the sport grows, along with my skill and work ethic. I am looking to take my sport to the next level, and play collegiate, at a college that caters to both my high academic and athletic standards, but challenges them both as well. My drive, mental toughness, and ability to adapt quickly would make me a great addition to your program!
