Personal Statement
I first started field hockey in 7th grade; then soon started to practice with girls grades above me. I started from the ground up as a goalie. I wasn't a field player who converted. I knew from my first day playing that I was meant to be a field hockey goalie. January of 7th grade I came home from my first field hockey camp and told my dad I volunteered to play goalie. I remember him encouraging me to play in the field to take advantage of my speed (I think he wanted to be able to cheer when I scored goals). I didn't take his advice. I spent that entire week working with an incredible goalie coach, who is still my goalie coach to this day. I jumped right into additional goalie camps, clinics, and private lesson. I have almost as much fun taking shots in training as the action of the game.
What I love most about goalie is being able to see my play impact the game in a very important way. I've been lucky on my club and high school teams to have a solid defense who has my back both on and off the field. The feeling of bond between me and the defense makes me happier than anything else in my life.
