Personal Statement
Although I started to play ice hockey when I was five years old, I only began to play field hockey in 8th grade. I made the varsity field hockey team in my freshman year in high school and by my sophomore year, I was hooked. I realized then that I wanted to play field hockey in college, but I knew that in order to get better I would have to switch schools to play at a higher level. This was extremely challenging, but I decided then that it was worth it. I transferred to Westminster School as a junior this fall.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but my ice hockey skills transferred over into my field hockey abilities. Playing on an all-boys ice hockey team in high school for two years gave me confidence and strength that I took onto the field. I found that I could stick handle quite easily with both sides of the stick and easily maneuver in between the players. I have an awareness of where to be on the field, which helps me set up plays for my teammates. I enjoy getting an assist as much as getting a goal.
I am a committed and dedicated student and I strive to get the best grades possible. Being at a new school this year, I am trying to take advantage of all the opportunities that are available to me. I just recently joined the community service program and I find it most rewarding.
I do not have any strong preferences yet on where I want to attend college or what I want to study. I just know that it is important for me to find the best match for my academic interests and athletic abilities and that I want to be able to contribute as much as I can to my school community.
