Personal Statement
I am a dedicated, hardworking and enthusiastic individual. My competitive nature has allowed me to excel in many sporting disciplines but my passion lies with field hockey. My inner self-drive to reach the goals I’ve set for myself has opened doors such as playing for my school’s first team for three consecutive years, representing the provincial team numerous times, as well as being the reason behind my strong academic background. It would be a wonderful opportunity to study at a University in the United States while developing as a player at the highest level of hockey.
My current role on the turf is the center half position, where I am able to control the back by making solid tackles and breaking down play. My strongest asset is my ability to read the game and to distribute the ball incredibly well. I am a committed, coachable player with grit and determination. I enjoy playing in a team where I am challenged and able to contribute my skills, while still enjoying the game I love. My continuous will to improve has resulted in a physical presence and mental toughness on the field.
My goal is to study at a University in the United States, in order to extend my horizons and also share my South African knowledge and culture with fellow students and teammates. I would like to start off with a basic science degree and then venture into the medical field. Financial assistance would be important and a great help to my family, however I do believe in the saying, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
