Personal Statement
I am a hard worker, and care about my academics and doing well in everything I attempt. I am a good collaborator and self-organizer, I work well with others and know how to both lead and be led in a team. I give 100% in everything I do, this extends to my studies, scholastic activities and sport.
Hockey is my passion- my happy place. Currently I have been playing elite and national-level hockey in Hong Kong and attending recruitment events for Harvard in the USA, as well as FIH invitationals in the Netherlands. During Coronavirus I was in the UK and had been invited to play with the U15 England Hockey performance pathway. Playing elite GB hockey has always been a dream, ever since meeting Team GB Captain Kate Richardson-Walsh and holding her Olympic Gold Medal. I am determined to take my hockey as far as I possibly can, to me sports and academics work side-by-side. I push myself in both areas.
For the past school year I have been at boarding school in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province in Mainland China as part of a programme led by the Chinese International School. This experience has been enriching both for my own personal growth and independence, but additionally learning about professional and personal existence in a communist-capitalist country. I have many insights in this area and I believe this will greatly influence my skills when reading law.
Studying law in the context of how it impacts the digital world in terms of fin-tech, privacy, alternative currencies and other areas that combine computer science and the law interest me. I want to study at a top university to combine these interests toward shaping the legal challenges of my generation.
For me, every day I pick up a stick is a good day. It has been no issue finding the motivation in doing my workouts and skills practice during the pandemic. But I miss the team work, games and competition. I can't wait to get back out there on the pitch. IG: @beat.rice.hockey
