Personal Statement

My name is Mary Ella (Melli) Balcer, and I am a sophomore at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, Maryland, where I play field hockey and lacrosse. I also play for the Jackals field hockey club U16 Midnight team.

As a two-year varsity starter as a goalie for Holy Cross field hockey, I was honored to be named Most Valuable Player for the 2024 season, recording 86 saves. I was also recognized with Honorable Mention for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), which I feel reflects my dedication to performance and teamwork. Although my primary position is goalie, I also have experience as a field player with Jackals, I can adapt when needed.

I believe I have a strong work ethic, leadership skills, and commitment to both academics and athletics. I’m always eager to improve and bring a positive, team-first attitude to every practice and game. My primary strengths are my academic focus and my drive to succeed both on and off the field. I am a dedicated student, and I believe the discipline and perseverance in my sports translate directly into my approach to learning.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
