Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Kelsie Couto. I am a goalkeeper at Apponequet Regional High School and for Lead The Way Field Hockey Club. I love the excitement of being a goalkeeper! I started at the position during my freshman year in high school when our freshman team did not have a goalie. I decided to give it a try to see how I liked it and to help out my team. I am so glad I did! I found out very quickly how exciting it is to play this position. I have worked hard to train and learn about the position. That's what lead me to the Lead The Way Club team. When I tried out for Lead The Way, I was fortunate enough to meet Coach Marian Mueller, who has experience playing in Germany. Coach Marian has inspired me so much it is hard to put into words. He challenges me to push myself, to have no fear, and to honestly believe in myself. He has made such a big difference in my mindset when I play. I wouldn't have had this incredible experience if it was not for Lead The Way. Not only do I get to play year-round, but I've also had the opportunity to meet other goalies from New England. I've definitely made lasting friendships. This is all why playing field hockey is more than just a game. I have learned so much about myself, what it means to be a good teammate and what I am truly capable of doing. I hope to take my skills to the college level and be the best player and teammate I can be. Thank you!
