As someone who was born and raised on an island, my options were limited. There is no youth program for field program on the Vineyard, making high school the first opportunity for me to play. By beginning my field hockey career my freshmen year, I was already a step behind most athletes in the league. This disadvantage did not detriment my passion for the sport but instead motivated me to work harder. As someone who struggles with the need for instant gratification, field hockey taught me patience. Success does not happen overnight. I improve the most by applying advice from coaches and always seeking feedback. By asking my coaches questions and critiquing my form, I have come from nothing to something.
I live by the saying "play like it's your last game," whether it be in practice or a live game, I am always looking for opportunities to demonstrate my best performance. I'm looking for a next level program to accommodate my athletic and academic abilities.
