Personal Statement
Me? Well, I'll take you back to when I was in third grade. During that year I did it all; soccer, swim, basketball, softball you name it. I visited my mom on the field hockey field and was intrigued watching her coach her high school team from the sideline. I witnessed the passion that she brought to help her players love the game as much as she did. Then and there I picked up a stick and still today have never put it down. Although my first year as a field hockey player did not go as I probably would have hoped, my team and I did not win any games, it stands out as one with the fondest of memories. The teamwork, making friends, having fun and just learning the sport stood out. With hard work, my team went from not winning a game to not losing a game, winning championships and being recognized by the town council within two seasons. I am very proud to say I was part of the first third grade field hockey team ever in my town and began a winning tradition in Burlington.
What I love most about field hockey is that it's a team effort, you should work hard for yourself and your teammates. What I really want to strive for is to be someone that another looks up to whether it is on or off the field. Off of the field I hope to pursue education as my major to make a difference in the lives of others. I have witnessed through my mission work with my youth group the difference a few people can make in helping others that are less fortunate. Compassion can never be underestimated.
