Personal Statement
My field hockey career did not start off easy for me, but I worked hard to learn the sport and master the skills and fundamentals of field hockey. I didn't make the team in 8th grade but giving up wasn't an option for me because I love the sport and getting cut from the team gave me more motivation and determination to do better, so I tried out again in high school.
Getting the chance to play field hockey for a team was one of the best things that have happened to me. Freshmen year the Nanuet JV field hockey team made it to the semi-final county championships, although the scoreboard said that we lost the game, for me and my teammates it was NOT a loss but rather a win in our own way, it was one of the best games we ever played as a whole and as individuals! I currently just finished my second and last season of JV Field hockey, now this upcoming season I set new goals as a Varsity player!
To keep my skills in check during the offseason I do Winter/summer leagues with my team in a league called Sound Shore Field Hockey in Suffern NY, we meet once a week and practice stick skills and then we play competitive games against other teams in the league. This summer I also participated in a summer field hockey program at Clarkstown South High School. Along with being successful on the field an athlete knows that they must succeed as a scholar as well, I'm an honor student and am striving for a high honor role and along with being an honor roll student, I am also taking my first AP class this year.
I know with privilege comes responsibility and the same hard work that you put on the field you must put into your academics as well. Playing field hockey has taught me that success can only be achieved if you never give up, always give your best, respect others, lead not follow, you set an example for yourself, team bonding, and just have fun!
