Personal Statement

As a middle school goalie at my school, I was amazed to watch our senior goalie graduate and go to college for field hockey. I knew I had big shoes to fill going into preseason, but I also knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Our team ended up undefeated in our league, and that’s when I knew we had something. Stepping into the season we had lost a lot of seniors, and no one expected us to do well, and that alone drove me to prove everyone wrong. Most people thought our good seasons were behind us, but our whole team stepped up together, and with strong leadership from everyone, we went all the way to the state championship.
Being on two varsity teams my freshman year has also given me the opportunity to understand leadership and how big of an impact character has on the field. I understand the importance of perseverance and how well the game goes with a strong team dynamic. Every player brings something unique to the field, and you have to be able to see the potential in each one. Working together as a team, regardless of the backgrounds of the players, is what’s important to a strong work-ethic. I believe I have the character and the talent to play for a college team, and I hope to make an impact on your program during my time on the team.
I’m looking for a program that uses every player to their full extent and pushes everyone to be the best they can by raising the bar the second it’s met. I hope to play for a school that has trust in their players and gives their all to helping the team, as there is always room for improvement. On and off the field I take what my coaches tell me, and try my hardest to do what my team wants and needs me to do. I find that I play even better when my teams are working together as one with complete trust in one another. Playing in college I hope to not only be the best I can be on a team, but leave a legacy for the future players by setting an example of strong leadership and strategic playing.
