I was lucky enough to start playing field hockey in 3rd grade because of the strong youth program available my area. This is a result of the great tradition of field hockey at my high school. Young girls grow up excited to play Emmaus High School hockey. My first real growth as a player began during my middle school career, where my coach challenged me to not just raise my level of play, but to take a leadership role on the field. She saw something in me that I hadn’t yet. I never pictured myself as a captain, but my teammates voted me captain for two consecutive years.
As I continue through my high school program, the level of play and physical training is more demanding than anything I ever dreamed about in the game of field hockey, but it’s why my team is so successful and I love the challenge. My goals for my high school and college career are to excel in all of my classes. I have a real passion for architecture, and the pursuit of an architectural degree will shape my field hockey path as well.
My family has helped teach me to work for what I want in life. I look up to my older brother a lot, as he was an excellent high school athlete, but also put academics first in becoming an aerospace engineering student. My religious faith has also taught me that there are so many more parts of life that are greater than myself, and that giving back is so important.
Finally, when I evaluate myself as a player, one of the most unique qualities I possess is that I am a student of the game. I can see the whole field, anticipate the flow of the game, and I help my teammates by communicating from my sweeper back position. I like to distribute the ball, and I am always looking for the opportunities to make my team successful in every game.
