Personal Statement
Field hockey was the sport my mom always tried to get me to play at a young age, but I was so involved in cheer and playing softball that I always pushed it off. My 7th grade year came around and all my friends were trying out for field hockey so I decided I would give it a try. After the first practice I was hooked! I immediately dropped cheer so I could focus on field hockey. Believe me, I was not the best field hockey player by any means but I knew I wanted to spend my time catching up with my competition and getting better at the game. My 8th grade season came around. I was picked as captain and my team went undefeated. This is when I realized I had a big decision to make. Should I juggle playing two sports competitively in high school or should I focus on one with the ultimate goal of playing in college? After much thought and consideration, I decided to focus on field hockey and immediately joined my club team, Mystx Fierce.
Honestly, I am so happy with the decision I made. I have created lifelong friendships and learned countless lessons from playing field hockey. I have learned to play as a team, ways to motivate my teammates, how to turn a loss into a win, and to give 110% each and every game until the time on the clock hits zero.
Overall, I consider myself a very aggressive player who doesn't like losing and who leaves everything she has out on the field. I also carry this mentality into the classroom. I work extremely hard to get good grades and to maintain my 3.9 GPA. However, I am always looking for ways to better myself to improve my game and my mindset. I believe one of my strongest characteristics is being a leader both on and off the field. I am the one who peps my teammates and friends up when they get down on themselves. I am also always finding the positive in negative situations. I want to be the teammate and friend known for building other's confidence and character. In college, I am looking forward to maintaining this same work ethic by continuing to strengthen my mindset, build friendships, and better myself academically and athletically for the future.
