Dear Coaches,
My name is Maura Kulp, and I am a 2024 defender playing for Pennridge High School. I started playing field hockey when I was in 4th grade, and I instantly fell in love with the sport because of the competitiveness and the speed of the game. I enjoyed the aspects of collegiality and being part of a team as well. At the start of my 9th-grade year, I was chosen to play on my high school's JV team as opposed to playing on the freshman team. In my 10th grade year, I was selected to play varsity, and further, into the season, I was a starting varsity player. During my 11th-grade year, I was a starting Varsity player. Looking back at my field hockey journey, I believe that I have grown tremendously, particularly in the areas of ball control and stick work. I am a dedicated and hard-working athlete who can do anything that I put my mind to accomplishing.
Additionally, over the past several years, I have played with U16 and U19 indoor Souderton Strikers teams during the off-season. This experience has been beneficial for me as it has assisted me with growing my skills and confidence in the sport. Last year, while playing for my U16 team, a U19 coach noticed me and offered me a position on his team as well. Having this additional opportunity allowed me to play with a more competitive group, which also allowed me to improve my speed and stick skills while giving me more versatility. Both my U16 and U19 teams attended the Indoor National Festival in Virginia. While playing for my U16 team, I was selected to be the team captain. This year, my U19 team had a very successful season winning many games, and we top off our year by heading to Virginia for qualifiers. As I continue playing during the offseason, I am also looking forward to the outdoor turf spring league that Strikers is hosting and the spring practice times with my high school team as well.
Consistently, I have proven myself to be a very caring and determined person. My academics are extremely important to me, and I work continuously to prove myself on and off the field. I have been on the Distinguished Honor Roll for the past five semesters. In addition to my 4.38 GPA, I take an interest in volunteering with different churches and with my school. I enjoy riding four-wheelers and dirt bikes around my grandparent's farm with my dad. Also, one of my hobbies is sewing. During the Covid pandemic, I had a small business sewing masks where I would sell them at a local chiropractor's office.
My goal is to play field hockey at the college level while achieving my academic career goals. I strive to find the best college fit for me through this platform. I am looking forward to playing collegiate field hockey to better develop my skills, communication, and connect with team players through a sport that I love.
Thank you so much!
