Sydney Dalton '23 Recruiting Profile

My goal is to attend the best academic college where I can play field hockey at a high level. In my freshman year, I was a key player/starter on the JV-A team and we went undefeated in the competitive Philadelphia area Inter Ac League. I was also the only Freshman JVA player brought up to play and get time on the field with varsity for playoffs.  Due to Covid 19, the Inter Ac season was shortened after a only a few games my sophomore year. As we started my junior, I had typically played Center Mid and my coach needed me to play right defense – a completely new position that I had to learn.  I took the opportunity to learn and be the best I could be and it paid off with playing the most minutes on the team and only coming off the field a few minutes in a few games.   My coach relied on me to fill a gap, learn a new position and be a leader on the field.   This season our team grew and progressed as the season went on, beating the then-ranked number three team  nationally (Villa Maria) and our defensive unit was able to shut down their offense to win 1-0.   Looking to further my field hockey skills, I moved to WC Eagles and was selected for their 3rd U16 Thanksgiving Showcase Team as well as I was selected to be in their top 6 U19 Indoor Team.   I believe the qualities that make me stand out to my coaches are my coachability, my focused mindset, my position versatility along with being a team leader on the field.  My knowledge of the game and field structure help me to communicate effectively with my teammates to get the plays and structure across. Being that academics is most important to me, having good time management, a clear focus and follow through skills have enabled me to excel and achieve high honors.  The key qualities that I will bring to a field hockey program are my integrity, my determination, and the self- discipline that will enable me and my team to succeed.
