Thando Muchemenyi '17 Recruiting Profile

I began playing field hockey six years ago at the age of 9 in South Africa. I come from a family of field hockey players and was inspired by my mother who played for the national team of Zimbabwe during her high school years. My brother played on the A team for his age group, and in 7th grade I was the captain of my school's first team. That same year, I was also awarded the Deputy Heads Sports Trophy for sportsmanship as a result of my achievements in field hockey, track, and my extremely positive attitude on and off the field. My first year of high school in South Africa before emigrating to the USA (8th grade), I played on my age group's A team, where I was selected to play for the district team as well as made it through to the second round of provincial trials. I captained the Junior Varsity team prior to my being pulled up into the varsity team at George C. Marhall High School. Our varsity team of 2014 reached state semi-finals, where we placed 3rd overall. Ever since I began playing, I have fallen in love with the sport and have always hoped of one day playing field hockey at the college level. I feel tha being a track athlete gives me a tremendous advantage with speed and stamina which differentiates me from other recruitees on the field. I feel that I am a strong candidate as my love and passion for this sport motivates and encourages me to strive for excellence at all times.I am an easily coachable and disciplined athlete who listens and pays attention to new methods which I can apply to the best of my ability in a game situation. Additionally, I am hardworking and excel both and in and off the field.I am able to apply myself both on the field and in the classroom.I study hard in order to maintain good grades and a high GPA currently at 3.61
