Personal Statement
My name is John Michael Richey and I am a senior at Hale County High School. I am a hard worker both in the classroom and on the field. I am not, nor will I ever be a Rhodes Scholar, but I apply myself and always get the job done. I love the game of football and aspire to play at the college level while furthering my education. I have been inspired to continue my football career by my uncles who played for Auburn and Alabama.
My uncle Steve Brown was a walk-on at Auburn University who later received a full scholarship. He was a middle linebacker under Coach Pat Dye, and played on the 1988 Sugar Bowl team. My uncle Shannon Brown played under Coach Gene Stallings as a defensive tackle at The University of Alabama. He is a member of the 1992 National Championship Team, and is also a permanent team captain. While I hope that I have the talent that my uncles had, I know that I have the grit and determination.
I get along well with others, am willing to learn, and understand that there is no “I” in TEAM. My team will be as strong as I am and I will be as strong as my team. My favorite quote is from Coach Paul Bear Bryant. "If you believe in yourself and have pride and dedication and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high, but so are the rewards." I truly believe that winners never quit and quitters never win. I seek to be a winner in all of my future endeavors.
