Matthew Purnell '20 Recruiting Profile

Dear Coaches,

    My name is Matthew Purnell and I am a 6'2" 195Ibs. quaterback in the class of 2020, I have a 3.67 G.P.A. and I currently attend Higley High School in Gilbert Arizona. I have started on Varsity in the highest division of Arizona football since my freshman year and have made it to the playoffs every year being as high as the second seed in the playoffs. Football has been my passion my whole life and with growing up in a household of athletes it was very easy to get emotionally attached to football. And while Football is a major sport of mine, I also compete in Basketball, and Varsity Track and Field. Competing in all these sports is what I love to do every single day, but with football there is something special about it that separates it from all the other sports out there. It has grown and matured me as a man, a leader, an individual with a high standard of character, and has transcended me into becoming an exceptional student that truly cares about applying myself everyday because I know that I will be using this education further down the road in life. Football also provides the perspective of reality unlike any sport, one day things can be going great, but then suddenly  turn into one of the roughest days you've had, and with that adversity I grind it out and give it my all knowing that there are better days to come and that this hard work will translate into me becoming a special individual that has the intangibles to perform exceptionally well on and off the field as an athlete and person. And with the kind of work and grind I put in everyday, my teammates see and recognize it, which has translated them into rallying behind me because they know I can lead them to achieve not only their personal goals, but the team's goals as well.
