Personal Statement

I am the athlete who has to work hard to be great. I can reach the bar wherever it is set and will put in the work that needs to be done to get there. I started playing at the age of 5 but didn’t start seeing myself as a collegiate athlete until this past year, as a freshman, when my size, strength, drive, and perseverance started to lead me in that direction. I have learned that my mental game affects my performance and confidence is a major factor on whether or not my game goes well. I have always loved the sport, the team and the comradery, but this year I realized I also loved being great at it. The harder I strive and the better I become, the more I love it. I have enjoyed playing football more than any other sport. Even when the hardest days filled with exercises like grinders, conditioning, and beach workouts leave me sore and exhausted, I love returning the next day to do it all again.

Football has given me a way to focus my energy, succeed, and push the limits in a different way. I love the comradery, the team spirit, and the pride we take in playing our best. Just as much as I love earning a win, I love implementing constructive feedback and seeing those changes the next time I play. This year, as a freshman on the JV team, I have played every game on both offense and defense and have only sat out for a single play to get some sideline coaching. The more effort I make, the more dedicated I become to work harder and focus more. I have a new respect for the game that only continues to grow.

In all honesty, I love football more than academics but I know I need both to succeed. I am glad I have football to motivate me to perform well in school and on the field. My desire to attend a military college and serve my country reminds me to maintain values that are easy to lose in high school.

I am inspired to serve by both great grandfathers who served in World War II and the Korean War, by my grandfather and uncle who have served the public as police officers, and by my mother who served as a US Marine.  As a fourteen-year-old, I know I have a lot to learn about myself and will continue to grow over the next few years but I know that one day I will serve my country and have the opportunity to play football in college.
