Personal Statement

My experience as a football player had shaped me into the athlete and leader that I am today. At six years old, I asked my mom if I could play football, but she said "no" because she thought it was too dangerous. It wasn’t until I was 8 years old my dad finally found me a team and was able to talk my mom into letting me play.

Over the years, I have learned that football requires a great deal of responsibility, dedication, and sacrifice before even stepping foot on the field. Football has challenged me physically and mentally and has made me a stronger person, leader, and teammate.

At the end of my sophomore year I broke my elbow during a tournament with my team. When I went to the see the orthopedic surgeon, he told me it was broken, and I wouldn’t be able to play the rest of the season. I was devastated. I felt that after all the work I had done was all for nothing. Fortunately, I was able to have surgery to repair the damage in order to play again. I couldn’t wait for the start of the next season to start practicing with my teammates.

Playing football has taught me that you can never give enough, and you must be willing to put it all on the field. Over the years, I have learned that life is not always fair and equal, but you must keep going. Most importantly, football has taught me to be a leader. I love that when I am on the field everything else in life disappears. The game on the field is the only thing on my mind, and the only thing that matters.

Over the years, I have also learned the importance of giving back to the community. By working in a homeless shelter, I learned that not everyone is gifted with what I have been, and I am reminded each day to count my blessings. By painting a school in a rural area, I was reminded what a gift education is and to appreciate what my school has offered me. These opportunities motivate me to keep fighting for those who don’t have the same advantages I have, and why it is always important to give back to those around you.

I am enthusiastic about starting the next chapter in my life and going to college. Neither of my parents went on to complete a four-year degree, but I have had the chance to see my older siblings go through their college experiences, and I knew that I wanted the same experience. I look forward to finding the institution that aligns with my personal values and will continue to provide the opportunity to continue to grow and learn. My goal is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy. I have been an athlete for my entire life and want to be able to give back to future sports programs and athletes their personal and athletic goals.

The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
