“Hard work pays off - hard work beats talent any day, but if your talented and work hard, it’s hard to be beat.” - Robert Griffin the third. I have many talents in which I am dedicated and willing to pursue. These talents/ interest are football and track. These two sports have had a major impact on my life and has helped me develop as more determined student with my studies.
I have been playing football since the seventh grade, and my talents have only progressed as an athlete and as a student. For example, freshman year I played on the varsity year while the team was full of seniors. I will admit the transaction from middle school football to high school varsity football was huge learning curve, but I adapted to the high pace game. As time went I became more confident in my own abilities and it helped me be more confident in the classroom as well. My last year of football I lead the team in scoring, receiving yards.I was also second on my team in tackles and tackles for loss, plus I was second in rushing yards. In other words football has helped me better myself with quick thinking and decision making as a student.
Another talent I have is track and field. I will admit, track was not my first passion. At first, I struggled in track and field. I did not excel in any parts of tack and field until I tried high jump mid season of my seventh grade year but I definitely struggled with this event but at least it was enjoyable at the moment. The following year in eighth grade is when my talent for high jump started to show. I placed fifth in distracted clearing a height of five feet, two inches. Since then I have dedicated myself to this sport and only gotten better.
When I got to high school, I became more curious to other events and realized I was multi-talented event athlete. I excelled in many aspects of this sport including throwing and multiple sprinting events plus some other jumping events. For throwing I was only good at discus with my personal best being 87 feet. As for the spriniting I did the 400 meter dash (personal best was 58 seconds), 200 meter dash( personal best was 24 seconds), 100 meter dash (personal best was 11.64 seconds) and the 300 meter hurdles (personal best was 51 seconds). Another jumping event I realised I had great promise in was the triple jump. With only a few months of practice I hit my personal best of 36 feet which is only 4 feet away from going to state. In the end my best event was high jump still. My hard work finally paid off junior year when I went to state after clearing a height of five feet, ten inches. My goal for my senior year is to reach state once again and clear a height of six feet two inches.
After participating with these two sports, they have prepared me for college and life in many aspects. After persevering and my determination to succeed, my talents as an athlete and student have grown out of its shell to show the world I am ready for anything. I believe that your college will help better me as a person and help make way for me to a better future and live my life the best way I can. I would not be the person I am without these two sports, Thank you for your consideration in having me as one of your student athletes.
