I have been told that I have natural leadership qualities by my parents, coaches, teachers and pastors. I was hesitant to accept this role because I thought it meant I had to be vocal and/or be in the spotlight. However, I learned that being a leader meant leading by actions and not words, doing the right thing even when no one else is looking, caring for other people, and having a drive to succeed. I get that opportunity everyday as being the oldest son of 4 boys. I am aware that my brothers are watching my actions and behaviors. I accept that leadership with great responsibility. I use these same leadership qualities on the field, in the classroom and in my community.
I am a freshman at Pleasant Valley High School. During my initial year I have participated in three sports; football, basketball and track. Football is my main sport and this year I was a two way starter on the junior varsity team that went undefeated. I played fullback on offense and middle linebacker for defense. I will be moved up to the varsity team for my sophomore year. I will be competing for a starting defensive back position. At 5-11 and 175 pounds, my size and speed will be an advantage. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in honors/advanced classes during my first year in high school and earned Honor Roll. I will continue to make my academic performance my top priority.
Although my athletic goal is to compete at the college level, my overall all goal is to be a college graduate. Both of my parents have Master's Level educations and have always encouraged me to strive for academic excellence. I may not know what I want to study but I do know the importance of a college education.
I am extremely driven in all that I do. I am driven to succeed in athletics, academics, my relationships and my goal to earn a college scholarship. My drive motivates me to work harder, longer, faster than most. My drive pushes me to go to track practice, spring football workouts and AAU basketball practice all in the same day. That drive also propels me to go home and complete my studies. I have been told that my drive is a gift. My parents have taught me to be humble with my gifts. I have lived my life by Luke 12 verse 48; "too much is given, much is required."
Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
God Bless,
Gabriel
