Personal Statement

Football Has Made Me The Person I Am Today.

I started playing Football my freshman year in high school. Invited to play on the Varsity Football team, I worked hard because football was a new sport for me. I started playing Varsity Football in my Sophomore year; I was the only Sophomore to be starting both on offense and defense that year, every game. After hard work, perseverance and the help of my coaching staff I became the Most Valuable Varsity Defensive Lineman in my Sophomore year. This year, as a senior, I was selected to be the captain of the team and had the privilege of earning the team´s MVP award, the Islander Award (leadership), and again, the Most Valuable Defensive Lineman. In addition, I was the only Islander player invited to play in this year’s SDFNL Football All Star game December 27th. More than just my performance and results, football has taught me many life lessons that are valuable for my future professional career, in international business entrepreneurship.

It is through football that I have discovered what leadership is and what passion feels like. As the Captain of the Football Team, I learned the importance of teamwork and motivation and also how to lead by example. Developing a passion for something is important to achieve success, whether it is about football, school, or work. Passion has helped me build discipline, strive for my goals, and focus on execution. Being the captain of the team this year helped me build leadership skills and character. I have developed discipline through daily football practice. Under the rigor of our training program, and teamwork, my team and I learned how to accomplish results.

Given my international background, speaking english (100%), spanish (100%), and french (80%), I will be aiming for a career in international business. I was born in San Diego, CA. and I am the oldest of five siblings. I believe that the world of business requires more than just management knowledge. I have noticed that the skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur are consistent with the ones I have developed so far through my football career over nearly four years.

I understand I still have much to learn. A good education is a priority for me, and I believe that my future success in business and in life will depend on it.

Finally, I have learned through football the value of giving back to the community. Having the role of the Varsity Captain made younger football players from all ages come to me and ask me for advice, tips, and even secrets of how and what I did to get to where I am as a football captain today. They saw me as a role model. As such, I had the privilege to give all of those children motivation and inspiration to work hard to reach their goals as football players as well as young achievers. Being able to give back opened my eyes and gave me satisfaction greater than my own success. I have learned that success in life is not about your own success only, but it is about being able to share wealth and knowledge with other people, help them, motivate them, and give them the right tools to succeed. This ties with my future success in business entrepreneurship, I want to share everything I will have learned and give back by providing others with tools to make their lives better and help individuals create a better world for everyone.
