My name is Keaton Asma. I am a student athlete at Culver City high school. I come from a very supportive home. I live with my dad, step mom, and step brother who have shown me nothing but encouragement over the last few years as I’ve been working to achieve a football scholarship. Football is something that has always been an interest of mine, initially as a fan. In middle school, a love for backyard football with my friends fostered a curiosity about the real deal. In 8th grade, I started playing football with the Santa Monica Vikings and I have never looked back.
While I love the rough game I play, I’m not an aggressive person by nature. In fact, prior to playing, I wasn’t nearly as assertive as I should’ve been. Since I started playing, I’ve found myself to be far more assertive in my life and I’ve seen just how far standing up for myself can take me. While speaking on life outside of football, my main motivation for a scholarship is the guarantee of higher education. This year, I’m a junior in high school and I have had a very strong academic career over the past few years ranging from a 3.4 to a 3.9 GPA unweighted. I’ve achieved these grades by working just as hard in the classroom as I do in between the white lines. I hope to apply my work ethic to learning about the things I love in a college environment. But I’d like to achieve and hopefully exceed a 4.0 GPA this year as a more short term goal.
While I’m in a good place in my life now, it wasn’t always this way. I struggled a lot in my upbringing, from troubles at home to overwhelming insecurity but these experiences only made me work harder. Commitment has always been my strong suit. When I start something, I will finish it, whatever it takes. It’s part of the reason I love football. I have to work hard in order to excel, from off season weight room sessions to conditioning after practice. I love the grit and the intensity. I hope I can continue this hard work at the next level.
