Personal Statement
My name is Jeff Lockie and I am currently a junior at Monte Vista High School in Danville, California. I am 6 foot 2 inches tall, weigh 185 pounds and was timed in the 40 at 4.68 this summer. I play quarterback for the varsity football team and also play on the varsity basketball team. I was MVP of the freshman baseball team, but chose not to play my sophomore year in order to fully focus on my football/quarterback opportunity. I am currently playing on the varsity basketball team. I was captain of the freshman football team and was the backup varsity quarterback in my sophomore year. Sports have been a major part of my life ever since I can remember. I don't ever recall not being part of some team or teams. I thoroughly enjoy the competition, fun and friendships that I have made over the years. A lot of my current teammates and I have been playing sports together since the first grade. I cannot imagine life without playing sports, although I suppose that will happen someday. I think sports have taught me many times over that the level of results achieved is a direct product of the level of the effort put into it. Nothing is a given. Like most athletes, my objective beyond high school is to continue playing sports at the highest level possible, for as long as possible. I believe my best opportunity to do so is in football. I really don't know if I am good enough for college football yet, it would be a dream come true, but I am fully committed to giving it my best effort. I would say that my priorities for choosing a college are, in order: (1) academic qualifications/reputation; (2) quality and integrity of football program; and, (3) geographic location. My preferences as of now are larger, Division I schools. I prefer the Western U.S., but am very open to opportunities at good schools in the rest of the country. I am officially undecided as to my major, but am leaning towards business with some specialty emphasis.
