Personal Statement
My name is Brock Harrington. I am currently a Junior at San Joaquin Memorial in Fresno, CA. I would love to continue my football career at the collegiate level while furthering my education.
At a young age, my parents divorced and my mother was left to take care of my brother and I, all by herself. We didn’t have a lot of money but she always seemed to find enough money to put food on the table and support us. I grew up seeing how hard my mother worked and she instilled in me a hard work ethic. My mother, Kendra always told me that I can accomplish anything with hard work and dedication.
While my mother was at work, I was looked after by my grandparents Mark and Mary Walbeck. My grandfather was a collegiate football player and taught me all about the sport. He helped me find my love for the quarterback position. I grew up watching Tom Brady and Arron Rodgers, with my Papa. After my mother remarried, I gained an incredible father, Stephen. He is a huge football fan and taught me a lot about the sport. He also taught me about dedication, leadership, and how important it is to have character!
Another huge influence in my life has been the Carr family. David Carr and his wife Melody were very close friends of my parents. My father Grant Harrington and David Carr played football at Fresno State University together. After David was drafted the first pick of the first round of the 2002 NFL draft to the Texans, my family would fly to watch him in Houston. The Carr family remained a huge part of my life. Rodger Carr, the father of David Carr and the now Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, took me under his wing 4 years ago. Rodger saw my potential as a quarterback and wanted to work with me. My grandfather drives me over 200 miles to work with him weekly. All my mechanics and footwork were taught and reinforced by Rodger.
I have learned so much about the person I am and who I want to become because of football. Football takes a great amount of hard work, dedication, and passion. My love for football is like nothing else. I am extremely dedicated to this sport. I work on my throwing, speed, and agility daily. This sport has taught me how important it is to be a team player. As the quarterback of the Varsity team, my teammates look to me to be a leader. I take what my mother instilled in me as a child about hard work and dedication and apply that to my football career and daily life.
