Personal Statement

My name is Chad Dashnaw, I am a senior at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California. This is my first season playing at Narbonne and a Division 1 school. I am the leading passer and lead in total offense in the CIF LA City Section, #7 in the state and #36 in the country, Division 1 1st TEAM All CIF QB. I came from a very small school in Acton, California (Vasquez). We moved at the end of July so I missed spring practice and passing league, I worked hard and fast to learn the offense at Narbonne and acclimate myself to the no huddle offense. The offense at Narbonne is a lot different than Vasquez and our success really depends on quick and correct reads of the defense. We had a very tough nonleague schedule that really helped me to learn to play at a much higher level. We played Los Alamitos, Mira Costa, Long Beach Poly and Orange Lutheran. We beat Orange Lutheran in double OT with 2 first pass touchdowns. We ended our season at the Championship Game in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. We work mostly out of shotgun at Narbonne, but I work out on Sundays with my QB coach Steve Clarkson where we work exclusively under center. My goal is to improve every week by working hard every day. My tackle football career basically started in 2007 as a sophomore at Vasquez High School. In the 2007 season I was the starting quarterback on JV. After our third game I was moved up to Varsity. Half way into the 2nd quarter of game 5 my coach put me in at QB. I completed 13 of 23 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns. I finished out the 2007 season as the starting QB for Varsity. I received the Coaches Award and the Scholar Athlete Award for 2007. That was a big year for me since the only time I played QB was in 8th grade flag football. The experience was awesome. I was the starting QB for all of the 2008 season. I did not miss a single practice or game. I received the Offensive MVP and Scholar Athlete Awards for 2008. I was also selected to the 2008 HDFCA All-Academic Team(football). The 2008 season proved to be very gratifying because of the improvements I was able to see from the hard work I put into my speed and agility in the off season. I consistantly attend private QB workouts with Steve Clarkson and Anton Clarkson or camps on the weekends, as well as speed and agility training during the week . My senior season has also shown me the the success that comes from hard work in the off season. I had a very busy spring. I visited several colleges and attended some camps, including the Elite 11 at Cal and the Nike at Stanford. I finished in the top group at both camps, so it has given me a nice boost in the recruiting process. My goal is to play football for a large university with strong academic and sports programs. My GPA is 4.0 and I am eligible to graduate after the 1st semester. I am open to all opportunities that come my way.
