John Kreifels '13 Recruiting Profile

Currently I am a Junior at Thomas Downey High School in Modesto CA.  I am 5’10” and weigh 195 pounds.  In my second year at the varsity level, I play outside linebacker and strong safety.  I also get in on most of the special teams and play running back on short yard situations.  I was voted one of four team captains by my peers this year due to my dedication, leadership and football knowledge on and off the field.  I have also attended football camps at Cal Berkeley, University of Nebraska and University of Oregon.

My goal is to play college football at the highest division level possible. My family is on the West Coast, but with other family ties in the Midwest, I would consider playing anywhere in the United States.

At the age of three I was placed in foster care.  When I was five years old I was adopted by Rodney and Pennie Kreifels along with my two brothers.  My brothers and I are very athletic.  Being the youngest brother, competing with them is where I got my competitive spirit.  The events leading up to my adoption are/ what made me realize that for me to succeed in life it will come from my dedication and athleticism.  Everyday I dedicate time to working out with various routines from lifting weights to agility drills.  I bench press 340 pounds and power clean 240 pounds.  My 40 yard time is 4.55 seconds and my vertical leap is 32 inches. My 20 yard shuttle run is 4.24 seconds.

Outside of football I also wrestle and run track.  My Sophomore year I was undefeated in conference duals at the 189 weight class at the varsity level.  I was also undefeated at our conference post-season tournament.  I was voted “Most Improved Wrestler” by my wrestling coaches.  In track, I ran the 100 meter dash, 4 x 100 relay, and also did shotput and discus. I was voted “Most Valuable Player” by my track coaches.

Because I know I need good grades to be eligible for college, I make sure my homework gets done and stay prepared for each class.  After my Sophomore year I am carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.28/4.0.  I am on track with my 16 core classes and will be eligible to enroll in any college or university.
