Personal Statement
I learned at an early age that nothing comes easy in life. It takes hard work and determination. As a young boy, I had severe skin allergies and asthma, which made it difficult to do day to day activities, let alone play organized sports and be outside. My family doctor recommended I attend a local Asthma Camp that he had been a counselor for. It turned out to be a life changing experience for me, as it taught me breathing techniques to help control my stress and anxiety, in addition to the use of my medications. I learned I could not only play outside, but I could compete in sports and be successful.
I began to grow out of my allergies and played every sport I could, but I discovered football was and is my passion. I played several years of pop warner football, but had to take a break for a few years after sustaining a concussion in 5th grade. My parents didn't want me to play football anymore, for fear of my health, but I convinced them that I would be bigger and stronger in high school. They were hesitant, but they let me. I'm glad they did, because after a 3 year absence, I forgot how alive and engaged I felt being on a football field with my friends, competing and learning valuable life skills. Football has taught me leadership, courage, discipline, team building, selflessness, and a positive attitude. All lessons I can take with me into life and the work force.
My current future goals are to maintain and graduate high school with over a 4.0 GPA with honors, and then to play college football and receive a degree in either graphic design, computer science, emergency management, or public administration. One of my biggest role models is my Dad, who is a firefighter, and I hope to one day follow in his footsteps, as the fire service is very similar to football, in regards to teamwork, dedication and training.
I feel I would be a very good fit for your football program because my coaches tell me I am very coach-able and intelligent on the field, as well as in the classroom. They also say I have an unbelievable work ethic. I am a leader and have a very positive attitude, which helps make myself and my teammates more confident. I hope you will take a look at me and find I would really fit in with your school. Thank you.
