"The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand" is a quote attributed to Vince Lombardi, and one that I and my family whole heartedly agrees with. I have been raised to realize that my hard work directly equates to the outcomes of my tasks. That anyone can be given a god given talent, but it is what one does with it is what counts, and even then, it only takes you so far.... From there, one must work hard and continue to lead the way as a team member, improve and work, work and work more! I have always been driven and have been blessed to be supported by my parents. I always strive to give anything I do my best and follow through, never doing something 1/2 way, the easy way, or short cutting my way through something. My father's favorite saying is," Nothing in life is easy." I have kept this in mind as I work on assignments and listen to class lectures, beacause if everything was easy, then everybody would be doing it! So, I worked hard maintaining a 4.0 since 4th grade.... and if I slip, and get a B on a quiz or something, I know I have to do better! I can not let my parents or myself down by not keeping my grades where they should be. My mom simply puts it this way, " I did not give birth to "average children", your 50% me so anything less than an A means you are not living up to your potential and you are not striving for your best!"
If if you knew my mom, you'd understand that she is dead serious! So therefore, so am I! I realize that my academics are the key to anything I hope to accomplish in my future as a contributing member of society. My success as an individual, my means of income and career will all be tied to my ability to learn and compete. I see athletics and music as opportunity to be able to do, this along with fulfilling my personal love or football, baseball and my French horn.
I believe that honesty and integrity go hand in hand with my goals along with my word being like gold! I have had to work hard to prove I am a young man of character, who will stand up and do the right thing! Sometimes it can be hard, but know that as I am challenged, I gain new strength and resolve that my decisions that I have made about the direction my life are ones that will stand the test of time & are well founded ones. I have two younger brothers who both look up to me and follow in my footsteps, and I realize that along with my father, they watch and learn from me daily, so my example must be one that exemplifies qualities that I hope for them to gain as well.
My desire to play sports comes from a deep passion I share with my father for sports, as an athletic director he has spent countless evenings and vacations traveling with teams and coaching, and I have been fortunate to have had him as my coach and watch, discuss and analyze with him plays and drills. I know that this time has made my father and I close and helped me realize the commitment it takes to be both a parent and a fantastic coach. I look forward to being able to do the same one day for my own children.
No one knows what the future will bring.. there are no guarantees in life, high school sports- definitely, college sports- I truely hope so, professional? Who knows... only time will tell. What I do know is, that with hard work anything is possible!
