My journey as an adoptee
I was 7years old when my dad died of liver cancer, and my mom developed an addiction to alcohol. and weed
I became the parent of my little brother who was 4years at the time, I took over the responsibility of my mom and my brother
I collected scrap to sell and earn money for food also I had to prepare the food it for the three of us.
Most of the days we went to bed hungry and the African tropical heat didn't help
It was a dark time even bleaker by my mother's outburst and some days she threw us out of the house. And we were forced to sleep outside.
I had given up of a normal childhood that's when our guardian angle my adoptive mom who is our maternal Auntie adopted us 4yrs age to date and brought us to the US
Having lived in a family where there were chaos and addiction, I developed a certain copping strength and reliance that still serves me well when faced with stress or diversity.
Someone may take the opportunity to attend your college for granted, not me
I have been here for only four years and I have thrived in academic and played on Versity team despite not knowing anything about football before I came to the US
It is all part of my journey hopefully someone will be inspired by how far I have come
