My name is Travis Hutchens, and I am a Senior at Elbert High School. At 6 foot tall and 200 pounds, I am the Team Captain and starting Quarterback. I am dually competent to function as an offensive and defensive player, as I currently play both sides in all of our games. As a Quarterback, I am equally effective with my feet and with my arm, depending on the situation presented to me.
My accomplishments as a football player consist of being named "All Conference Quarterback" every year I have played. As a high school freshman, I broke most of the Quarterback records in Elbert School History. This year, the Denver Post Newspaper named me as the player 'to watch' in 8-man football. Through 8-man football, I have learned how to 'read the field' better and be more strategic in my options as a Quarterback.
The major advantage of being part of a smaller school is that I have learned to play most positions on either side of the ball. I am a versatile player, which enables me to fit into any team at any position, and do it well. I love football, and I will do whatever is asked of me by my coach.
As a Quarterback and Captain, I feel it is my job to be the leader of my team, encouraging my teammates, whether they are starters or 2nd string/JV. I am always the first on the field and the last one off for practice and games. I truly believe and act on the ideal that our wins and losses are an accumulative effort of every player on and off the field.
I am equally excited about going to college to earn my education, and being able to play football at the same time. I am looking forward to becoming a better football player, physically and mentally, on and off the field in college. My personal goals are to be the best at whatever I do, academically and physically. If given the option to retake a test, I will do it for the simple reason I know I can always improve.
Shawn Graves, Elbert High School's Coach and Athletic Director, wrote the following about me in a recent letter to a prospective college coach:
"Please take a look at this kid! He can play! He is the best,
most-competitive kid I have had in 15 years of coaching high school
football! He plays quarterback and linebacker for me, but he could
potentially play any number of positions in college (QB, RB, TE, WR, LB, S). He is a great kid, a great student (3.4 GPA and an 18 on his 1st attempt at the ACT), and he has great character. Please give him a look!"
