Personal Statement
Going to college and performing well in the classroom and on the field is a self-driven requirement for me. I expect myself to excel in all aspects of collegiate life; everything from the classroom, to the field, to volunteering in the community. I see myself as a natural leader, and I thrive in leadership roles, especially when it comes to athletics. I believe that my character and leadership speak for themselves through my actions, and I know that leading by example has gained respect and admiration from my teammates. My coaches have seen this pattern in the team, and have given me the responsibility of growing what we call the "core" of our team. Initially, this core included only two teammates and me. Our head coach chose us because we were the players who do the right thing in the weight room, in the classroom, and on the weekends. Slowly, we are working to grow the core and have been reasonably successful. I firmly believe that when an entire team can come together, and trust each other fully to give their very best every day, that the football side of things will take care of itself. Although challenging, this responsibility has made me a stronger leader and has shown me that emotional and mental strength is just as important as physical.
