Tanner is smart (AP Math and Reading), is very athletic and is very coachable. One of his coaches refers to Tanner as "The Professor" due to his ability to not only know his position but also the assignments of all offensive line positions. His current coach noted he is strongly trending into the model of a D1 offensive line recruit. He is developing leadership skills that are modeled on the notion of actions speak louder than words. In addition to football, Tanner is also is a thrower on the Valor Christian Track and Field Team. In 2018 he was the Jeffeco Junior Varsity League Champion as a freshman.
