Personal Statement
As a student and teammate I feel I have what it takes to be one of the discriminating few that can bring it all when the stakes are high. My teammates look up to me when times are tough; they look at me as a captain and a leader. I have been playing this wonderful game for twelve out of the seventeen years of my life and am committed on and off the field. In my eighth grade year I was invited to play for the Rhode Island FBU National Championship team, which I took, as a great honor leading me to a great future. Also, I was able to attend Football University camps and was selected for TOP GUN in which I competed in Dublin, Ohio for four days. My freshman year in high school, I was the Defensive Captain and was starting linebacker and running back with a 6-3 record on the freshman team. In addition, I played with the JV team and was awarded Freshman MVP. As a sophomore in high school I started Varsity as a linebacker and had a very good season, and learned a lot about what it's like to play varsity while only as a sophomore, which helped improve my game going into my junior year. I continued as a starting linebacker for my junior year and was well respected as a leader on and off the field. This year, I am starting on both sides of the ball, alternating between tight end and running back on offense and linebacker and safety on defense. I am playing wherever the team needs me.
I'd like to make my collegiate goal to become both educated and play football at a highly accredited college. Playing at the next level will allow me to experience intense, competitive football, and will help me progress in the game both personally and as a teammate. Attending a great school and working towards a strong degree will help me grow and strengthen my collegiate career. I currently am maintaining a GPA of 3.3 and intend to continue to make my academics a strong priority. As I enter my senior year, I have started to narrow down my career path focus. My senior project is related to criminology, which I hope to concentrate on along with business. I have volunteered in my community at the local library, the community center, in youth sports, as well as the local fire department. At my high school, I am a member of the Unified Team and the Link Crew, which acts as ambassadors for new students. Finally, as a student athlete, I take my academics very seriously as well as maintaining strong relationships with the people that coach me in football and those that coach me in life because I know these valuable relationships will help me further myself and my future.
