Personal Statement
I have had a rather difficult and strange path thus far in my early life. I come from deaf parents and I am the youngest of 4 siblings. My siblings are all much older than me. Closest to me in age is about 9 years older than me. Our parents tried their best but we were lead in many parts by our oldest brother. Communication was never a normal thing in our life growing up with deaf parents. Moving multiple times in our life...all before I could really remember. My mom suffered a stoke at a young age ( I was 4) and my dad could not quite handle it so he left. We did not see him for several years. I started school and did not have the support I needed and thus I was held back in Kindergarten. When this happened my older brother stepped in again. I have been living with him now since I was 7 years old. He has shown me how to act and how to leverage all that we have in this world to get ahead. Hard work, honesty, humbleness, and health...something he calls 4H has helped me tremendously thus far in life. With these things as my guiding principles its helped me focus and put all that I have into everything I do.
When I think about my collegiate goals and aspirations, it is quite simple....I just want to go. My oldest brother is the only one to have gone on both sides of our family going back a few generations. I want to join him and earn a college degree. I'd like to focus my studies towards Business Administration and/or Accounting. My goals are to make Dean's list all semesters that I attend. Excelling in the classroom is just as vital as excelling on the football field. Some of my favorite players are more cerebral and I would look to emulate their evaluation and knowledge of the game and the classroom can help those things. Guys like Ed Reed, Eric Weddle, Harrison Smith, Richard Sherman, Julian Edelman, and Jarvis Landry are just a few players I admire and they are all students of their craft.
I believe what sets me apart is my desire to be the best I can be. It sounds very straight forward and probably something you hear all the time but one thing that I will not allow is to have someone out work me. They may be bigger...they may be faster...they may be smarter...but they will not out work me. My family and I have worked for everything that we have ever had. I never use my upbringing or what I have been exposed to for a handout or a free ride. All I have ever wanted is a shot to compete and a shot to prove to people I belong on the field. I am very confident in my abilities to excel in all aspects of life but the football field is where I belong. I hope to earn the privilege to continue playing after high school and I would be fortunate to anyone who gives this guy a shot.
