"If we're growing, we are always going to be out of our comfort zone" - John Maxwell
I remember my uncle telling me that if I wanted to grow and get better, then I had to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Although I heard his words and sort of had an understanding of what he meant, I did not discover the true meaning of this statement until I decided to switch high schools and start all over again. Not only did I have to meet new friends and find my place in a new school, but I had to start over with a new football program. Although uncomfortable at the beginning, this decision brought me to a new level in my personal development on and off the football field. I could have stayed where I was and settled for being mediocre, but I decided to push through and become better.
I first became interested in football as a young child. I played all types of sports: baseball, soccer, and basketball. I knew at a young age where I wanted to be and where I belonged. On the football field is where I feel most alive and feel a sense of purpose. One thing I have learned from the sport of football is what being part of a team really is all about. It's not always about just winning or losing, it is about relationships and comradery.
My goal in high school is to make good grades and always do my best in school. I have decided that I will not let my grades hold me back from becoming who I want to be. In college I want to obtain my master's degree.
Lastly, there is one characteristic that I believe makes me stand out on the football field and in life, and that is my ability to lead. I desire the opportunity to be the leader, not because I want to be supreme to others, but because I love to help others and add value to them. I enjoy taking people to levels where they couldn't have went by themselves. I truly feel that my ability to lead is a natural and God-given gift and I will always strive to not let that gift go to waste.
