My name is Micaiah Hughes and I like to be called Kayah. I’m a 6’2” Wide Receiver in the class of 2020 that weighs 170 pounds. The first time I played contact football was during my Freshman year of High School. I wanted to play Wide Receiver but they put me at Cornerback because my Coach said the Freshman team doesn’t throw the football. The following summer I worked on my Wide Receiver skills with a personal trainer and I went to a lot of football camps to get better. When I tried out for the football team my Sophomore year, I didn’t make JV, I made the Varsity team! My Sophomore season was a great experience even though I didn’t play that much. I didn’t let that stop me and I continued to work on my craft. The offense that my school ran was called the Triple Option. Even though they didn’t pass the ball much, I became an excellent blocker.
At the end of the Semester I transferred to Lake Mary High School; another school in the same district. However, Lake Mary runs a Spread Option. During the Spring Games of my Sophomore year I caught more passes then at my previous school of 2 years. During my Junior year I continued training with a former CFL & NFL Wide Receiver and kept sharpening my skills. As a Senior, I'm seeing the fruits of my hard work as I continue to work on my craft. Football has taught me to never give up regardless of the obstacles. I'll never forget how some people at school told me I wouldn’t play if I transferred to another school. I remained humble, kept my head up, pushed thru to the unknown. So far this season I'm averaging over 15 yards per catch!
Some of my High School goals are to continue preparing myself for college; currently I am undecided on what I want to major but think about Marketing. Thank you for your time and consideration.
