Personal Statement
I love the game of football. I have over a decade of football experience in Pop Warner, AAU, public high school, and private school programs. I have been fortunate enough to play multiple positions on both sides of the ball. Sometimes, I never leave the field.
As a freshman, I went to a big 8A public high school. Unfortunately, I ended the season injured. Sitting on the sidelines drove me nuts. Despite having one of my worst football seasons, my passion for the game grew even stronger. I was determined to come back tougher than ever.
During my sophomore season, I played DE, TE, and Special Teams on JV. It was a great come back season as I scored a TD and played defense again. When the season ended, I was invited to continue practicing with Varsity for the rest of their season and playoffs.
After completing my sophomore spring season with Varsity, I asked my parents to transfer to a smaller private school. I realized that I need to concentrate on improving my grades for the next two years. A smaller school environment would allow me to grow in the classroom and on the field.
I transferred to a private school for my junior year in the Fall of 2018. I accomplished my best football season yet. Despite being happy with my transition, I found out at the end of my season that the football team was losing funding and would be eliminated in 2019. In December 2018, I found myself looking for another private school to attend for the balance of my junior year and senior year. I have found a great home at Orangewood Christian School, with supportive coaches and over 40 years of football experience.
Despite all of my challenges, my desire is to play college football. I plan to work very hard to achieve this goal.
Thank you for your time,
Grafton Petrie
