I grew up playing club soccer, but my freshman year of high school I decided to try football. I was excited about trying something different and meeting new people. After speaking with the head football coach and my club soccer coach, we coordinated my schedule allowing me to participate on both teams. I am very fortunate that both coaches were supportive of me participating in two highly demanding sports.
Juggling school work, football, and club soccer was very demanding, but I worked on my time management skills and ended my freshman year with a 3.8 GPA. Although I learned to balance multiple commitments, I decided not to continue with club soccer to focus on school and football. Transitioning my soccer skills to football had its own set of challenges. Soccer required me to be on the field and moving consistently for 90 minutes; however, kicking for my high school football team I spent most of the game on the sidelines, and I learned quickly that I had to discipline myself to stay warmed up and loose, so I was ready when needed. I have learned over the years that you have to work for things and not just on the field, but off the field as well. Football has taught me to be a better person and to strive for what I want. My plans are to graduate high school and find a college that will help me continue to grow as a student-athlete.
