Personal Statement

PLEASE SEE MY HUDL LINK BELOW

I am 6'1" tall and weigh 177 lbs. My build makes it possible for me to move quickly with agility. I am an effective wide receiver and free safety because I am able to think quickly and critically about what is happening on the field and adjust accordingly. I am passionate about the game of football, the brotherhood of the team, and know the benefits of this experience later in life.

I have only been playing football since sixth grade, but have been recognized for my abilities by my coaches. I am a versatile player and adapt well on offense as a receiver and on defense as a strong safety, free safety, and cornerback. I started on the USA Football Development team as wide receiver and safety, and lead my Pope Junior Varsity team in reception yards, receptions, and receiving touchdowns the past two years. I am currently working out for the fall 2014 season, and have been asked to play offense and defense in varsity 7 v 7 games. The coaching staff is excited about my quick read on defense and are expecting me to contribute both ways this season. I have been working hard in the weight room to build strength and gain muscle mass for this season. I have gained thirty five solid pounds in the past two years.

I offer a team a lot, as I work very hard and listen very well to my coaches. I believe that no matter how good people say you are, there is always room for improvement. I am usually at workouts before my coach and like to stay behind to ask about areas I need to work on. I also believe that it can all be taken away quickly, so I am grateful for every day I get to step on a football field. I am not an academic concern because my parents have instilled in me the importance of a good education and having a plan for the future outside of sports. I think I am a silent leader because I don't talk a lot and let my actions speak for me. I have been increasing the intensity of my studies over my high school career and will be taking five AP classes this academic year. I have been taking honors courses and feel I am ready to tackle this academic challenge this year. I want to go to a school that takes their academics as seriously as their athletics. I am not geographically limited, although ever since I was a real young boy I thought I would go to Duke. Now that I am older, I understand that there are many great schools out there that may be a fit for me. I want to be in an environment that I feel comfortable academically, athletically, and socially. I don't know if my family will have a financial need. My mom is a teacher and my dad's business is up and down, so I don't know what things will be like by the time I get to college.

I think I would like to major in Applied Sciences. I have found that I understand and enjoy the statistic units in my math classes and know that this field is applicable in many work environments. What I do know is that I want to develop into a player that is qualified to play at the collegiate level and to make such an impact on the team, that I am seen as a leader.
