Personal Statement
Aloha, my name is Trenton Basug and I am a 5’9", 195 lb. outside linebacker playing for Roosevelt High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. I developed a passion for football within the last three years of high school. I started playing football in my Sophomore year, a lot later than most athletes and understood that my teammates were more experienced and skilled than I was. Although I faced challenges with experience, I was blessed with great coaches and teammates who took the time to invest in me and help mold me to be the athlete I am today. During my off season, spring training, and summer camps, I put in a lot of extra work in speed and agility sessions, one to one position specific training with Phase 1 Hawaii which has helped me develop a better understanding of my position and also pushed me to be a stronger, faster, and wiser athlete. My goal for this sport is to play at the next level while earning a college degree in Business Administration. I'd like to one day own a successful business in real estate and share the culture of Hawaii with the rest of the world. With a lot of passion and hardwork I am very determined and committed to playing college football. The best quality I can offer a team is my willingness to work hard, to learn and grow as a person and a teammate, and to bring a positive attitude to the program. I strongly believe that being a student athlete is very important and knowing how to perform in a classroom is just as important as performing on the football field. My current GPA is a 3.4, so not only am I committed and determined on the field, but also in the classroom. In my opinion and through my own experiences I believe that no matter the size, the skill, the talent, or the goal, NOTHING is impossible when you are willing to work for it. It's because of this mentality that I continue to push forward to achieve my dreams of attending college and playing football.
