My goal is to play college football and contribute to the success of my team on a meaningful level. For me simply being a member of a college football team will not be enough.
I have been working on my skills in the off season since the seventh grade. In addition to my team's off season program, I work with a trainer five days a week before school for one hour each day. We focus primarily on explosive full-body movements, agility, lateral quickness, flexibility and endurance. I enjoy the earlier workouts because they help me prepare for the day and do not interfere with academics. The primary benefit I have noticed from my workout regimen is an ability to gain weight and retain mobility and explosiveness. I weigh 275 now and I move better than I did at 245. I expect to arrive at my first practice of my senior year in top condition, ready to work on football technique and team objectives. As a leader on my team I think it is important to set a high standard of preparedness.
I primarily play guard and backup center, but I have taken it upon myself to learn every line position as well as the back's read on every play. I think it is important to my performance to have a deep understanding of the offense.
I understand that competing for a scholarship at the highest level of college football is hard work. If I don't make it, I can be certain that my failure will not be due to a lack of effort on my part.
