Personal Statement
My name is Charlie O'Connor. I attend Lyons Township HS outside of Chicago (IL Class 8A) and I'm a 6'4", 295 lb. Junior O-lineman. I'm 16 years old, I turn 17 in February. My goal is to play College Football for a great program which is also known for academics. This is only my 4rd year of organized football. I was too heavy to play in the youth league in my town. When I was in 8th Grade, the Catholic Grade School I attended was able to finally field a football team. When I was 14 I played for the first time and now I'm hooked!
There are a number of reasons why I feel I'm a valuable recruit. Even though I have good size now, I'm pretty sure I'm not done growing. My cousin Jim Marten was a 4 year starting RT at Boston College and was taken in the 3rd Round by the Dallas Cowboys in the 2007 NFL draft. Jim was 6'8", 310 LBS when drafted. I'm the 3rd of 4 boys in my family; both of my older brothers are 6'5". Outside of football, I'm really close with my family, I have a lot of friends (some who don't play football), I like to read, I love movies and I play the piano.
In addition to my size, I'm working hard on getting stronger and faster. I work with a personal trainer 2-3 times a week during the off season, in addition to our HS teams off season weight training program. I have a 3.8 weighted GPA taking accelerated classes. I also throw shot put in the spring. I was happy to finish 3rd in the Sophomore Conference meet as a freshman. I was the only freshman to compete in the meet. I feel that my Shot Put workouts help me with my footwork.
My short term goals are to continue doing well in school, to work hard for my team and to try to have the perfect game. I want my highlight video to show how my blocking impacts the outcome of the game. I want to get my name out there so I really appreciate you taking the time to evaluate my profile. We signed up at NCSA so we can use the technology to continuously update you on my progress and development.
